Women in Creative Leadership: Inspiration for International Women’s Month
March is International Women’s Month, a time to celebrate the trailblazing women who shape industries, communities, and creative spaces. It is also a meaningful opportunity to recognize the women who lead, mentor, and inspire others through creativity and collaboration.
At JDS Creative Academy, we are proud to spotlight the incredible women who help guide our programs, support our students, and contribute their talents to building a vibrant creative community. Their leadership reflects our mission to create inclusive opportunities in the arts and media for people of all abilities.

Women Leaders at JDS Making an Impact
Our team is powered by women who bring vision, experience, and heart to every creative initiative. Diane Strand, our Founder and Executive Director, has long championed inclusive arts education and workforce development. Her vision continues to guide JDS Creative Academy as it creates pathways for students to develop creative skills, confidence, and professional opportunities in digital media and storytelling.
Johanna Lack, our Program Director, works closely with students to help them grow as creative storytellers. Through hands-on training and mentorship, she helps aspiring creatives gain real world experience in media production while encouraging them to discover their own creative voice.
Events and community engagement are also supported by strong leadership. Lynn Cohen, our Event Chair, plays an important role in helping bring creative events and programs to life. Working alongside her, Johanna Lack and Maria Smith, both Event Coordinators, help organize productions, workshops, and special events that connect the community through creativity.
Beatrice Galvan, Production Specialist and Program Instructor, works directly with students while teaching valuable production and storytelling skills. Sherrell, our Day Program Instructor, also mentors students through hands-on learning and encourages them to build confidence through creative expression.
Behind the scenes, Katie McColm, our Backstage Creative Coordinator, helps ensure that creative projects run smoothly and that students gain valuable experience during productions.
Storytelling and communication are also supported by Giselle Morales, Staff Writer, who helps share the stories and achievements of the JDS community.
Jessie Price supports JDS Creative Academy remotely while serving as an important instructor and coach for Arts Across America. Through her work, she helps guide students as they develop creative and digital skills while supporting the continued growth of our programs beyond the studio.
Emily, our Intern, and Aryn Porras, Production Assistant Apprentice, bring enthusiasm and dedication as they learn and grow within the JDS creative environment. Their contributions represent the next generation of creative leaders.
Together, these women contribute their time, creativity, and dedication to building a community where students feel supported and inspired to explore their artistic potential.

Historical and Modern Creative Women to Know
The legacy of women in creative fields is rich and inspiring. From Alice Guy Blaché, the pioneering filmmaker who broke barriers at the dawn of cinema, to modern storytellers like Ava DuVernay, women have continually expanded what is possible in film, media, and the arts.
These leaders remind us that creativity has always been shaped by women who were willing to innovate, challenge expectations, and tell stories that matter.
At JDS Creative Academy, we celebrate both historical and contemporary women in the arts. Their achievements help inspire students to imagine new possibilities for their own creative journeys.
Why Representation Matters in the Arts
Representation in creative leadership helps shape how communities see themselves and what they believe is possible. When young women see leaders who reflect their aspirations, it builds confidence and encourages them to pursue their creative passions.
Creative spaces grow stronger when diverse voices are welcomed and supported. By highlighting women in leadership, we help create a more inclusive environment where creativity, collaboration, and opportunity can flourish.

Support Women Led Arts Initiatives
This Women’s Month, we encourage everyone to explore, support, and celebrate women led initiatives in the arts. Attend creative events, engage with artists online, and support organizations that provide opportunities for emerging creatives.
At JDS Creative Academy, we remain committed to creating spaces where women and creatives of all abilities can learn, grow, and share their voices.
When women thrive in creative leadership, creativity flourishes and entire communities benefit.
