Creativity Takes Center Stage: Inside Our Classes and the Road to the Winter Showcase

November 02, 2026•3 min read

Every December, something special happens at JDS Studios in Temecula. The lights go down, the room gets quiet, and a group of artists who started the fall wondering if they could really do this step forward and prove that they can. This year, that moment arrives on December 19 and 20, 2026, at the JDS Creative Academy Winter Showcase, a two-day, year-end celebration of creativity, collaboration, storytelling, and live performance.

Where Creativity Grows

At JDS Creative Academy, we believe creativity is not a talent you either have or you don't. It is a skill. Like any skill, it grows with practice, the right guidance, and a community that believes in you. That is why our Fall programs are built around real creative work, and why every one of them leads to the stage in December.

Scriptwriting: Where Every Story Begins

It all starts with a blank page. Our Scriptwriting class, offered virtually, explores storytelling, structure, character development, and writing for performance. Students learn how to turn an idea into a story with a beginning, a middle, and an end, and how to write dialogue that sounds like real people talking. And let us tell you, there is nothing quite like hearing an audience laugh at a line you wrote.

Filmmaking: Bringing Stories to the Screen

Once the words are on the page, our Filmmaking students bring them to life every Thursday from 5:30 to 7:00 PM. Working inside our production studio, including our green screen stage and editing bays, they build hands-on skills in camera work, lighting, storytelling, and digital media- the same skills professionals use on real sets. At the Winter Showcase, these emerging filmmakers will premiere their original work for our community.

Backstage Production: The Heart Behind the Show

Not every star stands in the spotlight. Our Backstage Production students meet Wednesdays from 4:30 to 6:30 PM to learn the behind-the-scenes skills that bring live performances to life: running lights, managing sound, calling cues, and keeping the whole show on schedule. These are real workforce skills. Reliability, communication, and problem-solving carry into any job, which is exactly why workforce development through the arts is at the heart of everything we do.

Musical Theater: Fiddler on the Roof Takes the Stage

And then there is the stage itself. Our Musical Theater class meets Wednesdays from 5:00 to 7:30 PM and builds skills in singing, acting, movement, confidence, and ensemble performance. This season, our musical theater students are bringing Fiddler on the Roof to the Winter Showcase stage, a beloved classic full of heart, tradition, and unforgettable music. It asks performers to be brave, and watching a student who was nervous in September own the stage in December is one of the greatest joys of our work.

More Ways to Create: Acting Classes and Haunted Stories

The creativity doesn't stop there. Our Acting Classes for youth, teens, and adults focus on acting technique, character work, confidence, and storytelling. And this fall only, our Haunted Stories intensive has students creating their own original characters, stories, and performances just in time for the season.

Stronger Together

What makes the Winter Showcase so powerful is that none of these classes stand alone. The writers hand their stories to the filmmakers. The performers depend on the backstage crew. Everyone trusts everyone. That is real collaboration, the same way a professional production works, and it reflects what inclusive arts education is all about: every ability has a place, and every person has a purpose.
